BASKETBALL CIVIL WAR WEDNESDAY MARCH 4TH FREE NCAAB PICK

OREGON DUCK @ OREGON ST. BEAVERS

The Oregon Ducks hit the road for their 3rd consecutive game to end the season as they travel to Oregon St. for the basketball version of the Civil War. Oregon punched their NCAA Tournament ticket by sweeping Stanford on Sunday. No matter what happens, they are playing for seeding. Oregon St. would have to win The Pac 12 tournament to get in but playing against Oregon is enough motivation. Oregon’s season was spinning out of control with back to back losses against lowly Wash ST. and Washington in mid January. They turned it around January 30th with a 1 point win against Arizona St. That started a run of 8 wins in 9 games including a win against Utah. Senior guard Josh Young has lead The Ducks all season but has been spectacular during the 9 game resurgence averaging 23 pts a game. On the opposite end of the spectrum The Beavers are not playing well at all. They’ve lost 5 of their last 6 games, their only win coming at home against Colorado. Gary Payton II leads the offensively challenged  Beavers averaging 13 pts 7 rebounds 3 assists. In their last 11 games they’ve averaged 54 pts a game, scoring in the 60’s twice and 30’s twice.

Prediction: It’s senior night at Oregon St., the only problem is they have no seniors to feed off that emotion. Instead their game plan will be to take every possible second off the shot clock to try and slow down Oregon’s 23rd ranked offense. They will stay close for awhile feeding off the emotion of the crowd and scoring a few easy baskets off an Oregon defense that has been up and down this season. In the end Oregon’s speed and athleticism will wear them down and quiet the crowd. Late free throws will turn a close game into a comfortable cover. THE PICK OREGON -1
