The New York Rangers travel to Long Island to play The Islanders in the middle game of their 5 game road trip. The Rangers trail The Islanders by 3 points in The Metropolitan division and a possible Eastern Conference 1 seed. They are 12-5 in the last 5 weeks playing without starting goalie Henrik Lundqvist who is very close to returning after being struck by a puck January 31st. Goalie Cam Talbot has played exceptional in his absence starting all but 1 game. The Rangers boast one of the best offenses in the league currently with the 6th most goals in the league. The 1st line of Broussard, Nash and Zuccarello have of course been fantastic with Nash leading the way with 60 pts. The 2nd line has done the damage in 4 games against The Islanders this year though with Stepan, Kreider and St Louis each with 3 points.  The Rangers score a lot of goals but not as much as The Islanders. They are 2nd in The NHL with 207 goals and have been holding off The Rangers charge despite splitting their last 12 games. The Islanders come home after going 2-2 on their own 4 game road trip including a 4-3 overtime win Monday night against Toronto. NHL scoring leader John Tavares continued to sizzle Monday night scoring a goal and adding an assist giving him 11 points in the last 6 games. The Islanders have gone 3-1 against The Rangers this season and this game is important as they’ve played 3 more games than The Rangers but only have that small 3 pt lead.

Prediction: This will be The 2nd game in as many night for The Islanders and 5th in 7 days. In the previous 5 games they have given up 18 goals. It doesn’t matter who is in goal of late as 3 different goalies have played in the last 5 games and the goals keep piling up. The Rangers are coming off those 2 low scoring games against Chicago and Detroit but that’s not the norm for them. I expect them to break out of their goal slump against terrible Islanders goal tending. These teams have been in some shootouts this season and what a perfect way for the last game between the teams at The coliseum to end. Expect plenty of action and plenty of goals.
