12 seed Wofford squares off with 5 seed Arkansas in the nightcap in Jacksonville Florida. Wofford finished The season 28-6 and beat Furman in the Southern Conference championship to earn their bid. As an offense they averaged 67 points a game led by senior guard Karl Cochran (14 pts) and junior guard Spencer Collins (12 points a game) Wofford likes to slow things down and play efficient offense. The Terriers shoot the ball very well,  just under 46% from the field (71st in the country). Their real strength is team defense. They only allow 60 points a game 24th best in the country.  5 seed Arkansas got an at large bid as the second best team out of  The SEC. The Razorbacks are led by SEC player of the year Bobby Portis. The 6’11 Portis is a beast. He averages 18 pts 8 rebounds and can even step outside and hit the 3. His right hand man Michael Qualls averages 16 pts 6 rebounds. Arkansas is not a very good defensive team allowing 70 points a game good for 272nd in the country.

Prediction: These teams play total contrasting styles. Wofford wants to slow it down, Arkansas wants to speed it up. In this game The Razorbacks are by far the more athletic team and aren’t going to let Wofford play slow. They are going to run, press and trap for the full 40 minutes. Wofford played Stanford, West Virginia and Duke this season and despite trying to slow it down gave up 74, 77, and 84 points, losing big in each game.. Arkansas will be able to score at will inside and turn Wofford over for easy fast break points. The problem is Arkansas is just awful on defense. In the last 7 games they gave up an average of 73 points a game. Wofford played against teams who ran and trapped against them in conference this year and routinely scored in the 70’s. They were crushed against Stanford, Duke, and West Virginia but those games were on the road. Wofford will have the full support of the Jacksonville crowd especially the UNC fans who play in the preceding game and will be cheering for the upset to avoid Arkansas in round 3. Add all that up and Wofford will score some points against the Razorback defense, knock down some 3’s and stay within striking distance all night. This game will be played in the 70’s and fly over the total of 137. THE PICK: OVER 137
