Thursday

Jets finally beat Rex and the Bills: The New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills opened the week on Thursday night. The line for this game moved all over the place. Bills opened as 2.5 point favorites, the line went to Jets -1.5 and eventually closed at Bills -1.5. Many believed this game would be like the 2 low scoring games of last year (Both Bills victories) it wasn’t. The Jets led at halftime 20-10 in a half highlighted by Olympian Marquise Goodwin’s 1st quarter 84 yard touchdown reception on Darrelle Revis and a pair of 2nd quarter touchdowns by Matt Forte and Eric Decker of the Jets. The Bills opened the second with 2 quick scores before the Jets scored 17 straight points to exorcise their Buffalo demons and ended their 5 game losing streak against them 37-31. The Jets covered as 1.5 point dogs and the total flew OVER the 40.5.

Sunday 1pm

Bad Blood in the Rain: When the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers get together you know it’s going to be a dogfight. After 3 violent, sometimes bloody brawls last season you knew this one was must see. Pittsburgh closed as 3 point favorite and the total was 48. Pittsburgh clearly outplayed the Bengals in the 1st half but a pair of interceptions by Pac Man Jones and Dre Kirkpatrick on Big Ben kept the score close. But this game ultimately came down to touchdowns and field goals. Bengals kicked 3 field goals and scored one touchdown, while Roethlisberger threw 3 touchdown passes. The Steelers won and covered the 3 point spread. The game went UNDER the 48. After the game Pac Man Jones said “We’ll see them mother f***ers again. Can’t wait until we see them again.” Pac Man we can’t wait either, especially because Vontaze Burfict will be playing.

Cowboys Win, Redskins players fed up with Cousins: The Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins played a very entertaining game that had everything. Back and forth scoring, turnovers, players screaming at their “franchise” quarterback. The Redskins closed as a 3.5 point favorite. The first half was highlighted (or lowlighted) by Redskins receivers running open down the field and Kirk Cousins overthrowing them time and time again. He missed on touchdown passes to both Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson…… It got worse. With the Redskins up 23-20 and 1st and goal at the 6, Cousins threw 2 straight incompletions and then an awful interception in the end zone that led to Pierre Garcon screaming towards his quarterback. Instead of ending the game with a touchdown pass and 10 point lead the Cowboys turned around and marched 80 yards for a touchdown and a 27-23 win. The Cowboys won outright as 3.5 point dogs and the total went OVER 47.

In Case You Forget Cam is The Man: We all saw this coming. The Panthers and Cam Newton had 10 days to stew over yet another loss to Denver. The visiting San Francisco 49ers and the 13 points they were getting didn’t stand a chance. Newton threw for 353 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Panthers took out all their frustration on the 9ers, winning 46-27 and covering the 13 point spread. The game flew OVER the total of 44.5.

Sunday 4pm

Miller and company vs Luck: The marque 4 oclock game had Andrew Luck and the Colts going to Denver to take on Vonn Miller and the Broncos. The Bronco defense was as devastating as always. They harassed Luck all day holding him to under 200 yards passing and holding the Colts to 250 yards total in a 34-20 beatdown. The Broncos covered as 6 point favorites and the total went OVER 47.

Sunday 8pm

Vikings prove last years division crown was no fluke: When the Minnesota Vikings won the NFC North last season many thought it was because of the Packers injuries. The Vikings knew better. Feeling disrespected that they were defending champs and opening up a new stadium yet it was the Packers that were favored, the Vikings defense showed once again that they have the best defense in the NFC. They held Aaron Rodgers to 213 yards passing, sacked him 5 times and picked him off to seal the game. The Vikings now sit alone in the North winning outright 17-14 as 2 point dogs. The total went UNDER 43.

Philly May Have Found Their Man: When both L.A. and Philly moved up in the draft The Eagles told everyone who would listen that Carson Wentz was the one they wanted all along. Well people are listening now. Wentz showed his play in opening week was just the beginning. The Bears defense and the rabid fans tried their best to rattle the rookie, who took some big shots. It didn’t matter, Wentz made all the throws he had to and rushed for a few first downs, guiding the Eagles to a 29-14 win, winning outright as 3 points dogs. The total of 43 was a push.

Bad Beats

Jags/Chargers UNDER 47.5: If you took the UNDER 47.5 in this game you were probably hoping the teams would just play not to get hurt in the 4th quarter as the game was decided with the chargers up 35-0. First bad break came when the Jags scored a TD early in the quarter to make it 35-7. Then some good luck. Jacksonville stopped San Diego on the 8 yard line and forced a FG with 7 minutes left to make it 38-7. The Jags were clearly done trying now right? Wrong, When Jacksonville got the ball back with a little over a minute left, Bortles was in the shotgun and they played hurry up. San Diego basically allowed them to drive down the field and score the most meaningless of touchdowns with under a minute left to make UNDER bettors lose their shit.
