Football junkies and bettors alike are extremely excited to get this season going. Well wait no more. College Football is kicking off this season with essentially a 10 day opening weekend with the first games kicking off August 28th and week 1 ending on Labor Day September 4th. The first Thursday of the college season will feature a rare week 1 Big Ten opener with Ohio St traveling to Bloomington to take on Indiana. Indiana has a first year head coach with 2016 defensive coordinator Tom Allen taking over. The Hoosiers look to improve on their 6-7 record in 2016 that saw them losing in the Foster Farms Bowl to Utah. On the other side you have perennial title contender Ohio State and coach Urban Meyer who is looking to make it to the college football playoff for the 3rd time in 4 years.

The Indiana Hoosiers were absolutely dreadful a year ago on offense and only made a bowl game because first year D coordinator Tom Allen took one of the worst defensive teams in the country from 2015 and made them into the top 40 scoring defense last year. Now that he is the head man look for their defense to be equally as good this season. The offense will be better with QB Richard Lagow back after a decent in 2016. The problem with this first game is Ohio State could have the best defense in the country (YES better than Alabama) Their front 7 is all back from a year ago and will dominate. The secondary has some turnover but will be fast and ball hawkers like they always are. The Hoosiers will have a tough time scoring in this one. The Buckeye offense led by QB JT Barrett taking snaps behind one of the best offensive lines in the country will roll. Usually we would not lay 20 points in week 1, especially on the road and ESPECIALLY with Ohio St who has trouble covering big numbers. But these Buckeyes will be ready. They have had to live with that 31-0 beatdown Clemson put on them in the college football playoff semifinals for the last 7 months. Combine that with a Big Ten opponent to open the season and these Buckeye’s look to prove a point and win going away. THE PICK – OHIO STATE BUCKEYES -20.5
