Tennessee -3 O/U 56

Tennessee 2016: Straight Up: 9-4 ATS: 4-9 Total: 6-7

Georgia Tech 2016: Straight Up: 9-4 ATS: 4-8 Total: 7-4-1

Week 1 of the 2017 season closes on Labor Day night with a College Football Monday night football game. This SEC/ACC non conference game will feature two perennial 2nd tier teams that win enough games to keep their fan bases somewhat happy but not to compete for a playoff spot. The Tennessee Volunteers and coach Butch Jones had high hopes in 2016 especially after starting the season 5-0 but a 3 game losing streak derailed any chance of an SEC title berth. Jones will have hands full this season as he has to replace a bunch of talent from last year’s squad as well as break in a new quarterback. When it comes to breaking in a new quarterback Georgia Tech and coach Paul Johnson are in the same boat as they will have a new one as well. Neither coach has tipped his hand on who will start.

For this RideTheHotHand free pick we are going after the point spread. These two teams are pretty even on paper until you take a closer look. Georgia Tech will return the bulk of their offensive line from a year ago and were looking at a huge season running the ball with their top 2 running backs returning as well. That was until the 2nd leading rusher Marcus Marshall transferred and leading rusher Dedrick Mills was kicked off the team. The only thing Georgia Tech does well is run and with no experienced tailbacks and no experienced QB to run the triple option this team is cooked. THE PICK – Tennessee -3
