UCLA -3 O/U 57

Texas A&M 2016: Straight Up: 8-5 ATS: 4-9 Total: 5-7-1

UCLA 2016: Straight Up: 4-8 ATS: 4-8 Total: 4-7-1

This intriguing power 5 non conference matchup features 2 teams that have fan bases that are starving for a playoff contender. The Texas A&M Aggies started fast in the SEC conference in 2012 going 11-2 and a Heisman for Johnny Manziel. Since then they have gone 9-4 in 2013 followed by three straight 8-5 seasons. Coach Kevin Sumlin is definitely on the hot seat this season as fans and boosters want to compete for playoff berths not play in middle tier, late December bowl games. On the other side is UCLA and coach Jim Mora who had a disappointing season last year in what was supposed to be projected 1st round pick Josh Rosen’s breakout year. Rosen missed the last 6 games after shoulder surger and the Bruins season tanked to 4-8

For this RideTheHotHand free pick we are going after the point spread. Both of these teams are well coached with good enough rosters to stay competitive in their conferences but no chance of winning it. None of that conference talk will matter in week one. Both of these offenses will struggle some with new faces getting their first chances to start on both sides. We truly feel these 2 teams are very evenly matched on both sides of the ball and we think the coaches cancel each other out as well. The difference is one coach, Kevin Sumlin hasn’t named a starting quarterback because both options are average (we think Jake Hubenak will get the nod). Jim Mora has a 2018 first round draft choice. So ultimately we’ll go with the team playing at home with the better quarterback and that’s UCLA. THE PICK – UCLA -3
