The Kansas City Chiefs has been the forgotten team in the AFC West as all eyes have been on the defending Super Bowl champs Broncos and the current division leaders the Raiders. As the 7-2 Raiders are relaxing on their bye week, one of the 2 teams that beat them will travel to Carolina to try and tie them at the top of the standings. Carolina on the other hand was left for dead heading into their bye week on October 16th before getting healthy during that bye week and knocking off Arizona and Los Angeles in back to back games to keep their season alive.

Kansas City has so far relied on the same strategy as they did last season to make the playoffs. They want to run the ball, play defense and do everything in their power to not give Alex Smith the chance to screw that up. Their short passing game offense (and we mean REALLY short as Smith is 24th in YPA) is hard to watch but has been effective thus far. Carolina on the other hand has struggled to repeat the formula that got them to the SB a year ago. Everyone knew the defense was going to struggle in the beginning with a whole new secondary but it went on a little longer than anyone expected. Well those secondary problems still exist but there’s a difference in the last 2 games. It’s getting harder to run on the Panthers. They held their last 2 opponents to 24 and 59 yards rushing respectively. With Kansas City reliance on the run, that doesn’t bode well for them in this game. Another thing that doesn’t bode well is Cam Newton is on a war path. He feels disrespected by the NFL for what he perceives as a lack of protection. Expect Cam to be out for blood these last 8 games. Kansas City has problems with athletic quarterbacks and no one is more athletic than Cam.
