POWER 5 CONFERENCE RECAP

ACC

BEST WIN: Florida St traveled to Boston Friday night to take on Boston College in a very hostile environment. Their defense shut down The Eagles tough running game, holding them to a 136 yards on the ground and 195 yards total on their way to a 14-0 shutout win and covering as 8.5 point favorites.

WORST LOSS: Georgia Tech missed a golden opportunity when they lost at Notre Dame on Saturday. The Irish lost their starting QB a week earlier and many thought it was a perfect spot for the upset. But Notre Dame rushed for 1 less yard than the run heavy Yellow Jackets and backup QB Deshone Kizer had a very good game as Georgia Tech suffered their first loss, 30-22 as 1 point favorites.

BAD BEAT: The Miami Hurricanes were 3.5 point favorites at home against Nebraska and held a 33-10 lead with 9 minutes to go in the 4th. Miami backers were already spending their winnings until Nebraska stormed back with 23 points including the tying score with 33 seconds left to send it to OT. Miami backers were heartbroken a 2nd time as The Hurricanes only won by a field goal.

BIG 10

BEST WIN: Northwestern started 2-0 and cracked The Top 25 last week at #23. It could of been easy to travel to Durham and lose to Duke and immediately slip out of the rankings. After being down 7-3 at halftime The Wildcats, Solomon Vault returned the 2nd half kickoff for a TD and a lead The Wildcats never relinquished winning 19-10 as 3.5 point dogs.

WORST LOSS: The Purdue Boilermakers hosted fellow 1-1 team Virginia Tech as 5.5 point dogs. Purdue had a 2nd quarter lead of 14-10 before The Hokies scored 41 of the last 51 points and embarrassing the Boilermakers 51-24 and covering with ease.

BAD BEAT: Chalk bettors were loving Michigan St as 24 point home favorites against Air Force. They were loving it even more when Michigan St took a 2nd half lead of 35-7. Then coach Mark Dantonio took his foot off the gas and allowed Air Force to make it a respectable 35-21 final score and a cover for Falcons backers.

BIG 12

BEST WIN: Texas Tech went on the road to face Arkansas as 10 point dogs and after being tied 21-21 at halftime their defense held The Razorbacks to 3 2nd half points on their way to a 35-24 win and getting a big win and cover.

WORST LOSS: Iowa St went on the road to face Toledo as 7 point dogs. After scoring 10 4th quarter points to send it to overtime, The Cyclones gave up a 2nd possession TD then couldn’t match it losing 30-23. At least their backers got a push. For Big 12 school Iowa St to be 7 point dogs to Toledo and not cover is in our opinion a bad loss.

BAD BEAT: The people who took Cal as 5 point road favorites over Texas were feeling pretty good going into the 4th quarter leading by 21. A furious Texas rally saw that lead evaporate when Texas scored a TD with 1 minute left to cut the lead to 1. It got worse for Cal backers when Texas missed the extra point that could of sent the game to OT and still gave Cal a chance to cover. (Note- this game would of gone into the bad loss category for Texas but they covered and this is a betting site)

PAC 12

BEST WIN: Stanford traveled to The Coliseum as 10 point dogs to face #6 USC. after deficits of 21-10 in the 2nd quarter and 28-24 in the 3rd The Cardinal scored 17 of the last 20 points led by QB Kevin Hogan (279 yards 2 Tds) to get the 41-31 win and cover.

WORST LOSS: On the other hand USC just has to be sick on this Monday. Many believed they were serious playoff contenders with their toughest games being at Notre Dame and closing at Oregon and vs UCLA. No one thought Stanford would derail their hopes this early in the season. Their defense let them down as Stanford held the ball for 40 minutes and finally choked them out. USC must now win out to have a chance. Doubtful.

BAD BEAT: Colorado played their in state rivals Colorado State as 3 point favorites. They lead by 7 with under 4 minutes left when Colorado St tied it up to send it to overtime. The Buffaloes eventually got the 3 point win and a push.

SEC

BEST WIN: Ole Miss traveled to Tuscaloosa to take on #2 Alabama as 8.5 point dogs in the game of the weekend. Ole Miss got 342 yards passing by QB Chad Kelly including 2 long, wacky touchdown passes to shock Bama 43-37 and beat The Crimson Tide outright for the 2nd straight year as underdogs.

WORST LOSS: Auburn proved that the Jacksonville St near upset wasn’t a fluke and they actually were frauds. LSU rode amazing running back Leonard Fournette for 228 yards and 3 Tds and LSU’s defense stifled Auburn’s offense to score an easy 45-21 win at home as 6.5 point favorites.

BAD BEAT: Vanderbilt pasted Austin Peay at home 47-7. The total was set at 53 and Vanderbilt was leading 40-7 the whole 4th quarter with both teams trying to run out the clock. Vanderbilt returned a punt deep into Austin Peay territory with 2 minutes remaining. 4 runs later and Vandy was in the end zone to push the total OVER by 1.
