NORTHERN IOWA vs IOWA ST. (-8) O/U 62.5

Iowa St kicks things off as a home favorite against FCS school Northern Iowa. Iowa St. returns 7 starters including QB Sam Richardson who threw for 2,700 and 18 Tds in ‘14. Sophomore RB Tyler Brown should step into the starting role and do a good job thanks to the return of 4 starters on the offensive line. The receiving corps should help Richardson a bunch, returning their 2 best receivers. Allen Lazard and D’Vario Montgomery combined for 1,200 yards and 5 touchdowns. They also return Quenton Bundrage who was one of their best receiver in 2013 and missed all of last season with a torn ACL. The Cyclones Need to stop the run in order to be successful because The secondary should be very good, returning 3 starters including both corners Sam Richardson and Nigel Tribune who were both 2nd team all Big 12 combining for 7 INT’s.

The Panthers went 9-5 last season losing in the 2nd round of the FCS playoffs. The Panthers return only 11 starters from that team including senior starting QB Sawyer Kollmorgen and his 2 favorite targets. The offensive and defensive lines both lost a bunch of starters which doesn’t bode well against a much bigger Iowa St team. The Panthers do return 3 starters from their secondary which should help slow the Iowa St passing game down a little and keep them in the game. Last season Northern Iowa’s first 2 games were a 8 point loss to Iowa and a 3 point loss to Hawaii so they won’t be intimidated by Iowa St.

In the end we believe Iowa St passing game will have more success than Northern Iowa’s who won’t be able to pass against The Cyclone corners. It’s going to be a competitive game but in the end take Iowa St. and lay the points. THE PICK: IOWA ST -8, UNDER 62.5
